A routine postal and courier shipment headed for Ukhrul took a violent turn on Monday when a convoy was intercepted by armed individuals, leading to the destruction of 36 bags of consignments.
The incident, which occurred along National Highway-202 near Shangkai village, has been formally reported to the Litan Police Station.
Courier convoy targeted
According to the complaint filed by Nazir Hussain, who was part of the convoy team traveling from Yaingangpokpi, the convoy was forcibly halted shortly after crossing into the vicinity of Shangkai village.
In his detailed account, Hussain alleged that at around 10 am, three armed men intercepted the convoy and forcibly boarded the Post Office vehicle. He claimed that the individuals held him at gunpoint, threatening his life and ordering him to continue driving under their duress.
Hussain further stated that when security personnel stationed nearby attempted to inquire about the convoy’s destination and status, the armed men pressed a firearm against his thigh to intimidate him into silence. The assailants reportedly assured the security team that they intended only to unload the courier items before redirecting the vehicle toward the Shangkai village ground.

Once at the village grounds, the situation escalated as the assailants unloaded the shipment and set 36 bags of courier consignments on fire.
Hussain’s complaint noted that the perpetrators also attempted to set the government vehicle ablaze. However, the destruction of the vehicle was prevented by the intervention of some elderly individuals who arrived at the scene in a black Alto car and a black Thar. Following this, the convoy was permitted to depart the area.
Complaint lodged
In his formal plea to the Officer-in-Charge of the Litan Police Station, Hussain has urged authorities to take immediate and necessary legal action against those responsible for the destruction of the consignments and the life-threatening intimidation faced by the escort team.
Police have acknowledged receipt of the complaint. No arrests have been reported as of filing this report.
