Healthcare infrastructure in the hill district received a major boost this week as the Ukhrul District Hospital (UDH) officially rolled out two critical new medical services: a dedicated Physiotherapy Clinic and an eight-bed High Dependency Unit (HDU).
According to the district health authority, the facilities were inaugurated on Thursday and welcomed their first patients starting Friday, marking a substantial upgrade in the hospital’s capacity to manage chronic conditions, physical rehabilitation, and high-risk maternal cases.
The newly commissioned Physiotherapy Clinic is designed to address a wide range of mobility and pain management needs. It will cater to patients suffering from chronic bodily pain, support recovery from physical injuries, and provide specialized rehabilitation to help restore movement and function for individuals recovering from strokes and other neuromuscular weaknesses.
In tandem with rehabilitation, the hospital has activated an eight-bedded High Dependency Unit aimed at providing intensive monitoring and immediate, advanced care for critically ill pregnant women and postpartum patients.
Health officials emphasized that the HDU will significantly elevate the standard of emergency obstetric care in the district. By addressing a crucial gap in local medical infrastructure, the unit is expected to play a vital role in managing high-risk expectant mothers and women immediately following delivery.
With both facilities now fully operational, the district health authority has urged residents of Ukhrul and surrounding areas to visit the hospital and make full use of the newly introduced healthcare services.
