Union Minister of State for the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Dr Sukanta Majumdar said the ministry was committed to fast-tracking priority economic sectors and infrastructure projects to ensure long-term development in the Northeast.
He was speaking at the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan programme held at Andro in Imphal East on September 17.
Focus on Viksit Bharat
Majumdar said the 76th birthday celebration of Prime Minister Narendra Modi was being observed across the country with enthusiasm and served as a symbol of national unity and shared progress.
He said the occasion also marked Modi’s 25 years in public service, spanning his tenure as Chief Minister and Prime Minister. In line with the vision of Viksit Bharat, the government had accelerated a nationwide development campaign, he added.
The minister said the vision had to begin at the grassroots level, with a Viksit Manipur and a Viksit Northeast contributing to the realisation of Viksit Bharat.
He said the earlier neglect of the Northeast had been replaced by a strategic focus under the leadership of the Prime Minister. Modi had described the eight northeastern states as “Ashta Lakshmi” — the eight forms of wealth and prosperity — and recognised the region as India’s gateway to Southeast Asia, Majumdar said.
He added that DoNER was implementing a wide range of infrastructure and social development initiatives, many of which had already been completed.
The main highlights of the programme included the lighting of the Aashirwad ka Diya (Lamp of Blessings) with villagers and beneficiaries of various government schemes, as well as an interaction with students.
The programme was organised by the Planning Department and presided over by Andro MLA Th Shyamkumar. Andro village chief Sagolsem Chandra, Planning Director Dr RK Radhesana, DoNER Joint Secretary Dharanvir Jha and social worker Th Babita also attended the event.
