Jan Kalyan Shivir boosts welfare reach in Ukhrul

Jan Kalyan Shivir camp—which operated from June 17 to 19—provided easy access to central and state government schemes for residents across four sub-divisions: Ukhrul, Jessami, Chingai, and Lungchong Maiphei.

In a significant push to streamline the delivery of government services, the district administration concluded a successful three-day Jan Kalyan Shivir (Public Welfare Camp) on Wednesday, June 19. The initiative, aimed at eliminating bureaucratic hurdles, saw nearly 900 residents register for various state and central welfare schemes.

Ukhrul Deputy Commissioner (DC) Uppuluri Chaitanya provided an update on Friday, noting that the camp—which operated from June 17 to 19—provided easy access to central and state government schemes for residents across four sub-divisions: Ukhrul, Jessami, Chingai, and Lungchong Maiphei.

Surge in Civic Engagement

The initiative saw a remarkable turnout, with the DC reporting that the final day alone accounted for roughly 300 to 400 applications, bringing the total number of registrations to between 850 and 950.

Efficiency was a hallmark of the Jan Kalyan Shivir; the DC noted a 95% application disposal rate. “The core objective of the Shivir is to ensure timely delivery of welfare schemes so that no eligible person is left out,” Chaitanya said. By bringing district line departments directly to the people, the administration was able to resolve complaints and correct application errors on the spot, preventing the need for repeat visits to the district headquarters.

One-Stop Access

According to DC, the Jan Kalyan Shivir functioned as a comprehensive one-stop window for citizens. Residents were able to secure health coverage, register for major health schemes, including CMHT and PMJAY, rectify documentation, correct errors on existing cards and applications in real-time. “Public can also receive livelihood guidance, seek professional advice on entrepreneurship, including ventures in mushroom cultivation, piggery, poultry and others,” he said.

Multi-Departmental Collaboration

To ensure the success of the drive, the administration mobilized a wide array of government offices. During an inspection of the counters at the DRDA hall inside the mini-secretariat campus, DC Chaitanya was accompanied by ADM Polly Makan, and SDCs Yureikan Hungyo and Changmei.

A broad spectrum of departments participated, including the Department of Social Welfare (DSW), the District Industries Centre (DIC), the State Bank of India (SBI) Ukhrul branch, Fisheries, Health, MSPDCL, CAF&PD, CMHT & PM-JAY, ICDS, Horticulture, Veterinary, Agriculture and various other departments.
