2nd Remembrance Day of Lt Pamreiyo observed

HVAC has approved financial assistance of Rs 1.5 lakh every three years for the late Pamreiyo's wife and children.

Residents of Hungpung village gathered at the Hungpung Ilongshim on October 3, 2026, to observe the 2nd Remembrance Day of the late Pamreiyo Y Rephung, organised by the Hungpung Village Administrative Council (HVAC).

The solemn commemoration honored the supreme sacrifice made by late Pamreiyo during a violent land dispute clash between Hunphun and Hungpung villagers on October 3, 2024. The tragic 2024 incident had claimed three lives and left over twenty people injured on both sides.

The event commenced with Hungpung headman AS Wungmayung Peter unveiling a memorial plaque amidst the stirring rendition of the Hungpung anthem.

In his welcome address, HVAC chairman YR Ringreikui paid tribute to late Pamreiyo for his ultimate sacrifice for the cause of the village. Demonstrating support for the bereaved family, Ringreikui announced that the village council has approved financial assistance of Rs 1.5 lakh every three years for the late Pamreiyo’s wife and children.

As part of the solemn observances, attendees observed a two-minute silence in memory of Pamreiyo. Tributes were subsequently offered by Hungpung national workers and headman Wungmayung Peter, who lauded Pamreiyo’s sacrifice as a deeply patriotic and selfless act born out of a profound love for his community.

In addition to honoring Pamreiyo, the HVAC also presented tokens of recognition to 17 villagers who sustained injuries during the 2024 clash.

Delivering a spiritual message, Choithar Baptist Church pastor Rev. N. Hopeson urged the gathering to embrace a spirit of contributing to society rather than expecting service from it. Challenging the congregation to reflect on their Christian walk, he encouraged them to live cautiously and purposefully to build a better tomorrow.

Representing the grieving family, YR Leo expressed heartfelt gratitude to the HVAC for organizing the commemorative event, as well as to the community members for their continued love, respect, and concern.

The commemoration featured soulful musical performances by budding local artists Wonsorin MKS and Kumyaowon KS. The spiritual proceedings were anchored by Hungpung Baptist Church pastor Rev. PS Sword, who delivered the invocation, and former catechist L. Ngachanpei, who offered the final benediction.
